Unnatural Selection Podcast Review

The podcast "Unnatural Selection" can only be described as attention grabbing and VERY engaging. Interviewer Pat Walters dives deep into the controversial topic of natural selection, a process in which species are shaped in order to adapt to their environment. Walters first interviews Lulu Miller, in which she argues that scientists missed the point of Charles Darwin's idea of natural selection and evolution. Walters then interviews physicist Steve Shu, who disagrees with Lulu Miller's emphasis on the importance of variation.

What was the overall point?

It is discussed that there is a possible theory that our DNA has special aspects that shape who we are without having anything to no with natural selection, thus making it unnatural selection.

Audio Types

  • The first audio type used in the podcast was a voiceover. Pat Walters would take a brief moment before, during, and after listening to a section of both Lulu and Steve's interviews to provide the audience with a small amount of background information before proceeding to the interviewees.

  • The second audio type used in the podcast was an interview clip. Walters incorporated short recordings of previous interviews he conducted with different people in order to support his statements and claims made in the voiceovers.

  • The third and fourth audio types used in the podcast were ambient sounds and natural sounds. Pat Walters included an equal amount of both sounds in order grab the attention of the audience. The sounds varied from loud echos to soft static sounds to help keep the flow of the video smooth and interesting.

Non Knowledge???

The podcast "Unnatural Selection" concluded that there is still several unknowns within the topic of natural selection. Many scientists have purposed theories and evidence to substantiate their claims, but have failed to reach an agreement.

Pat Walter's states in the podcast that there are several unanswered questions that even scientists can't seem to tackle. After all, natural selection is still considered to be a theory that is considered controversial due to the amount of people who believe and disbelieve its existence.
