WHAT is the Assignment?


     My task for this assignment is to interview three experts in a topic of my choice. The interviews will be short voice recordings in which I ask the question, "What I your opinion on the theory of evolution ?" My main intention is to get into a short discussion with experts in the topic of evolution to see if their individual religious beliefs have any bias towards their response.


WHO am I going to interview?


     Evolution is a controversial topic pertaining to science, specifically biology. I currently do not take any science classes, but several of my friends and my roommate do. I asked them the names of their biology professors and decided to interview Professor Mike Grider, Professor Heather Ahrens, and Professor Townley-Tilson. All three of these professors specialize in biology. My plan is to email them and ask about setting up a quick ten minute meeting to discuss evolution and record their voices for my podcast. Once I have all three interviews recorded, my next step is to put the recordings together to make a podcast in the software program Adobe Audition.

Podcast Topic  

The Theory of Evolution is one of the most controversial topics of all time. This is due to the fact that the theory strongly questions religious beliefs and the existence of God himself. In fact, when asked about believing in evolution, many people find it insulting to as assume that they would doubt their own religious beliefs. With that being said, I was curious to know if my own peers would let their religious beliefs influence their response to my question, "Do you believe in the theory of evolution?"

Conclusion

After wandering the halls of different dorms on campus, I stopped and asked three different people what their opinion was on the theory of evolution, and whether or not their religious beliefs brought any bias towards their viewpoints. I came to find that many students do not let their own religious beliefs influence their opinion on evolution, because they believe that they should be kept separate from scientific evidence. Many students understood that scientific information changes constant and new discoveries are being made every day. After all, a scientific claim is true unless it is proven false.

Editing Process 

In order to create my podcast, I imported the voice recordings of students into Adobe Audition by emailing the recordings to myself and dragging them into the program. I then separated each recording by setting up a multitrack in Adobe Audition and spent some time trimming and cutting clips in order to make everything flow together nicely. I then added music and raised the volume to add a podcast feel to my work.
